The Sodus Farmers’ Market was “born” as a result of a chat among friends at the United Third Methodist Church in Sodus village and in consultation with two experienced farmers market vendors. In June 2009, the market started with seven vendors. The response was explosive — most of the vendors were sold out within an hour. The market grew by leaps and bounds and during the 2015 season, special events were added. This year’s market will feature crafts and activities for children and each week, Eat Smart NY will provide nutritional information. It’s a happy, relaxing environment to meet friends, talk with farmers and learn new ways to prepare fresh fruits and veggies.
When does it open? The Sodus Farmers’ Market opens Wednesday, June 14, 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. It runs every Wednesday at that time through October 11.
Where is it located? The Sodus Farmers’ Market is located in the parking lot behind Sodus United Third Methodist Church, 58 West Main Street, Sodus, NY.
Does the market accept EBT SNAP Benefits? Yes! The Sodus Farmers’ Market participates in SNAP and Fresh Connect checks, so participants receive a $2.00 bonus check for every $5.00 SNAP tokens they buy. Use your $2 Fresh Connect check to purchase additional SNAP eligible foods in the market. Some farmers accept FMNP/WIC checks.
What do the vendors sell? Local farmers and gardeners offer fresh fruits and vegetables as well as flowers. Other vendors offer baked goods, honey, cheese and garden plants. Local restaurant owners also offer food for sale.
What is happening on August 30? The Sodus Farmers’ Market will offer wellness vendors and special activities on those days. These are great opportunities to visit the market, purchase locally grown foods direct from farmers and experience all that this great market has to offer.
