The market is the home to over seventy vendors throughout the year, all of whom are producer only. Producer only means that everything for sale at the market has been grown, cooked or created by the people selling the product to you. We’re very proud of our producer only status and so are our vendors! Each Sunday vendors, shoppers, musicians and friends gather at Schenectady Greenmarket and enjoy our festive marketplace. Enjoy live music, prepared food and the region’s freshest local produce.
When is the market open? The market is open Sundays, 10-2, year-round.
Where is the market located? May-October the market is located around City Hall; November-April we are inside Proctors Schenectady, NY
Does the market accept EBT SNAP Benefits? The most commonly used benefit at the market is EBT/SNAP. You will receive green $1 tokens for your purchases. These tokens are used just like cash for acceptable products. We also participate in the NYS Fresh Connect check program — for every $5 you purchase on your EBT/SNAP card, you receive a $2 coupon that can be used directly with vendors (for acceptable products) at the market. This program increases your purchasing power by 40%. For example, if you spend $10 in EBT, you’ll get an extra $4 in checks – giving you a total of $14 to spend at the market. We also offer reduced prices on Schenectady Greenmarket merchandise, and we’ve offered reduced prices on our Farm Tour in the past as well.
What products do the vendors offer? Vendors sell fruits and vegetables (in season), baked goods, snacks, eggs, meats (pork and beef, pasture-raised chicken), and seasonal flowers all from within a 100 mile radius of Schenectady.
What makes your market special? Since the beginning of Schenectady Greenmarket in 2008, farm vendors have donated excess produce to help fight food insecurity in Schenectady. Starting in 2014, the market began working with its partners MVP Health Care, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, City Mission of Schenectady and the Schenectady Ambassadors to bring unsold food to City Mission. The partnership has been fruitful with over 8,000 lbs. of food, or roughly 6,700 meals donated in the last two years. In 2015 alone, from June through October, the market’s vendors donated over 5,400 meals to our neighbors in need.
Special Events: Schenectady Greenmarket is intended to be a destination for the whole family. Each week, we host a Children’s Activities Table with a variety of activities designed to make the market an interactive experience for people of all ages. In addition, we encourage other community outreach groups and programs to assist us in offering these activities so that we can include more of the community and offer a greater variety of activities. Such groups have included Schenectady Boys & Girls Club, the Glenville Children’s Museum, and the Union College Chemistry Club. Enjoy live music at Schenectady Greenmarket every Sunday as we showcase some of our finest local musicians.
